The Palace of Holyroodhouse: A House of Many Memories
- Product Code:

Description
From its origins as an abbey and a place of religious retreat to its role in the infamous murder of David Rizzio in the bedchamber of Mary, Queen of Scots, this book covers the full history of the palace, as well as shedding light on well-known stories. Almost completely rebuilt in the 1670s, the sumptuous baroque interiors of the palace were designed for Charles II. The unlikely residence of a Jacobite court, a Russian Princess, and even a few lions, the Palace later served as a family home to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on their regular visits to Balmoral Castle.
The grounds that surround the Palace – in the past, a place for jousting, the cultivation of medicinal herbs and a sanctuary for debtors –continue to be used by the Royal Family to host annual garden parties and events. The Palace itself serves as the setting for investitures and receptions, as well as welcoming thousands of visitors every year.
First ever official history of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Scottish residence of His Majesty the King.
Contains specially commissioned historical commission and plans.
